普契尼的《托斯卡》可以是個廉價的煽情戲,一部糅合著愛情、政治與慾望的通俗劇-如果沒有他那扣人心弦的華麗樂章,與撕裂的神經末梢融和一致的音符的話。把這樣一部膾炙人口的歌劇搬上銀幕,也幾乎註定要令導演焦頭爛額。然而奇蹟出現了,班諾瓦.積高的《托斯卡》應是十多年來少數歌劇電影令人滿意的一部。積高以三種途徑(以華麗的攝影拍攝全劇的戲肉,十六毫米的黑白菲林拍攝錄音過程,及以錄像俯瞰歷史現場)來閱讀普契尼的傑作,不但叫人一新耳目,原劇的迫力更絲毫不減。原籍羅馬尼亞的女高音安琪拉.葛姬演繹的托斯卡,更是一次顛峰演出。
Jacquot transposes Giacomo Puccini's famous opera to film in this stunningly filmed, sung and performed production featuring two of today's hottest opera stars. The films starts with black-and-white footage of the recording studio. He then brings the action forward on the sets, but makes frequent cuts to the studio. This avoids the sense of having filmed a staged production, and establishes an air of non-reality. Jacquot then adds a further visual dimension to the film by filming dazzling sequences of gardens and the night sky in Italy using a video camera. The two singers are also a couple in real life, a fact which adds emotional depth to their personas.
